Army Second Lieutenant Masami Tsuchiya (25 years old at the time) was exposed to the atomic bomb while hospitalized with appendicitis at the First Army Hospital in Hiroshima. Holding a military sword in one hand and a washcloth instead of a gas mask in the other, Masami jumped out of the window, but was crushed under the building and died. He was due to be discharged on August 7th. The next day, the body was confirmed by the original unit of the ship headquarters in Ujina, and in mid-September of the same year, his father, Eikichi (49 years old at the time), visited Hiroshima and found the body kept in a temple near the original unit. I brought back the remains and relics.
