Mitsuyo Furukawa (then 34) was exposed to the bomb in her front yard and suffered severe burns on her chest and arms. Nevertheless, concern for the safety of her daughter, a mobilized student who had gone downtown to work, kept her in the city for a week after the bombing. Finally, she gave up and returned to her hometown for treatment. Her husband eventually found their daughter and brought her home. Mitsuyo did see her again, but she had suffered major burns over her entire body and died two days later.
