Overview

The museum opened in 1949 in an old wartime cafeteria. The present facility, opened in 1975, continues to provided the general public with energy information.

What You'll See

The museum has an excellent display of nuclear weapons, including very realistic bomb casings of many different models.

Public Tours Dates and Times

The museum hours are from 9am to 5pm Monday through Saturday, and 1pm to 5pm on Sunday. The museum is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. A 1 to 3 hour visit is recommended. Call 865.294.4531 for additional information. Admission is $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for children age 6 to 17 and for seniors (65 and older). Children 5 and under, are admitted free.

How to Get There

The American Museum of Science and Energy is located at 300 South Tulane Avenue in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Oak Ridge is about 23 miles northwest of Knoxville.
