On November 22, 1955, the Soviet Union conducted its first two-stage hydrogen bomb test, code-named RDS-37, at the Semipalatinsk Test Site. The RDS-37 was dropped from a Tupolev Tu-16 bomber and detonated at an altitude of 1550 meters with a yield of 1.6 Megatons.
