Medical Treatment
A young woman receives dressing for her burned arms Oct. 4, 1945, at the Red Cross Hospital in Hiroshima. The photographer, Shunkichi Kikuchi, was the staff photographer for the Ministry of Education's Science Council and was responsible for the still photographs documenting the treatment provided by the Red Cross Hospital and Teishin Hospital staffs. Kikuchi managed to keep more than 850 negatives hidden from the strict censorship laws imposed by the occupation forces.
